Minister praises Government at the inauguration of the Montijo Reception Center

The government has acted within a specific philosophy throughout its functional year, which has been effectively under full capacity for 11 months, stated Minister Rosário Palma Ramalho. She cited examples such as the increase in the IRS allocation for social solidarity institutions from 0.5% to 1% and a rise of 4.9% or more for addressing more deficit-laden responses, among other measures.

The minister emphasized the work done in collaboration with social and solidarity sector partners to assess social needs and the costs of social responses alongside confederations. She noted that some state contributions had been so low that there was a necessity to update them with extraordinary increases.

Rosário Palma Ramalho made these remarks during the inauguration of CAES 2.0, the Mutualist Social Reception and Emergency Center, after visiting the Nursing Home and the Continued Care Unit of the Montijo Mutual Union.

In addition to the physical space, the new Reception Center will provide urgent or temporary accommodation for families in situations of particular vulnerability and social protection needs, supported by a multidisciplinary team.

The new Reception Center will accommodate a total of 28 individuals, six in emergency settings with a maximum stay of 72 hours, and 22 in temporary accommodation for a three-month period, extendable for an equal period by the Social Support and Accompaniment Services (SAAS) of the Setúbal District Social Security Center.

“We provide shelter, restore hopes, and build futures” was one of the slogans embraced by the mutual union on the inauguration day of CAES 2.0, a facility that cost over 300,000 euros. More than 220,000 euros were financed through the institution’s own funds, supported by financial aid of 88,000 euros from the Montijo Municipal Council.
