Ministry of Education extends extraordinary contest and increases vacancies

The deadline for the current recruitment process has been extended, and minor adjustments will be made to the number of available positions. “The total number of vacancies remains unchanged, but we will make a slight adjustment,” announced Minister Fernando Alexandre today. This statement came after a meeting with unions regarding the negotiation protocol for revising the Teaching Career Statute.

Initially launched last week with 1,800 vacancies, the application process was set to close on November 14, but it has now been extended until 11:59 PM on November 21.

While the government does not intend to alter the total number of positions, they plan to reallocate vacancies across recruitment groups. This adjustment involves reducing vacancies in sectors where candidate numbers are likely insufficient, thereby increasing positions in other subjects.

For example, Physics and Chemistry had no initial vacancies, and last week the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation assured that teachers were available for more deprived schools.

“During the last recruitment reserve, only three time slots were requested for Physics and Chemistry teachers for those schools, with 12 educators currently awaiting placement,” explained the administration at the time.

Apart from Physics and Chemistry, the minister also mentioned today that vacancies would be enhanced for the Primary Education recruitment group.
