A 72-year-old man is missing in Fundão, in the district of Castelo Branco, following the severe storm impacting the country, confirmed the Notícias ao Minuto with the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The man is reportedly in contact with authorities, having alerted them himself that he was in distress. However, he is unable to provide his location.
He called emergency services at 11 p.m. yesterday and informed them at midnight that his car was stuck in a landslide near a body of water. However, he could not specify his location.
The man remains in contact with authorities.
The district of Castelo Branco was among the hardest hit by depression Claudia, which has brought heavy rain, wind, and strong maritime agitation since Wednesday night.
Across mainland Portugal, a yellow weather warning remains in effect due to the “showers, sometimes strong and accompanied by thunderstorms,” and in coastal regions, due to “waves of four to five meters” until Saturday night, for now.
