Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro confirmed on Friday that he resigned from his position as a Member of Parliament at the Assembly of the Republic after being excluded from Chega’s shadow government. He revealed he had a “serious crisis” with the party president in 2022.
“I had a serious crisis with President André Ventura between August and September 2022”, he stated in an interview with SIC Notícias.
At that time, Mithá Ribeiro had shared on social media an article by Pedro Arroja, in which Chega’s founder expressed being “quite disappointed” with the party’s justice proposals.
Following this post, Ventura called Mithá and was “offensive and aggressive”, speaking “in a shouting manner”.
“He was aggressive and offensive. My reaction was to ask for a calm discussion the next day, but he hung up”, he recounted.
“The next day, I saw the news stating that I was dismissed from the position of study office coordinator”, he added.
Still, he decided to stay with Chega because “institutions have their paths and crises.” Now, three years later, he left because he “was certain there is a narcissistic problem.”
“This case is not political, it’s about personality“, he remarked.
Last September 22, Chega’s parliamentary group announced that Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro requested the resignation as a Member of Parliament and would be replaced by Rui Fernandes, without disclosing the reasons for this decision.
“It is informed that the MP elected for the Leiria constituency, Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro, requested, in accordance with Article 7 of the Parliament Members’ Statute, the resignation of his MP mandate, being replaced by Rui Fernandes,” stated a communication.
This Friday, in an opinion article published by Observador, Mithá Ribeiro revealed he left the Assembly of the Republic after being excluded from Chega’s shadow government and described André Ventura as a “narcissistic predator” who “abuses power” and has a “vengeful demon”.
“I dissociated from Chega because I couldn’t allow myself to be dragged into one of the most scandalous practices of social parasitism and subsidy dependence, the condition of being a puppet MP in the hands of a narcissistic leader incompatible with any form of collective entity, who made sure to destroy the foundations of a solid institution that would serve as an existential filter”, writes the former parliamentarian at one point.
In the article, Mithá Ribeiro describes the “7 deadly sins” of André Ventura, whom he repeatedly accuses of being “narcissistic”: “Disregard [for reformist ideals]”, “Moral Unconsciousness“, “Civic Negligence“, “Inhuman Coldness [of a leader of ignorants]”, “Pride [of a violator of sovereign functions]”, “Irresponsibility [of playing shadow government]”, and “Immaturity [of politicians destroying peoples]”.

The former Chega MP, Mithá Ribeiro, signs an opinion piece this Friday, confirming he left the Assembly of the Republic after being excluded from the party’s shadow government and exposing André Ventura’s “toxic personality”.
Mithá Ribeiro was elected to the XV, XVI, and XVII legislatures, always representing the Leiria constituency, and was reappointed as the Secretary of the Assembly of the Republic in June following the early legislative elections.
