“Even for a second, the uncertainties of the international situation do not dampen or diminish this Government’s reformist spirit. On the contrary, it is precisely because we know there are serious difficulties and uncertainties on the external front that we need to reinforce and double our efforts and commitment internally,” stated Paulo Rangel, during his closing remarks at the debate on the Program of the XXV Constitutional Government in parliament.
The minister emphasized one of the Government’s main priorities: “We are going to reform the State, streamline it; instead of a flabby and bloated State, we want a strong and elegant, indeed, athletic State,” he said.
Rangel assured that the Government’s priorities would be managed with budgetary balance and specifically addressed José Luís Carneiro, the sole candidate for the leadership of the PS.
“We will do this with good accounts and accurate accounts. But we will not call them, in the misguided manner of our predecessors, accurate accounts. We will call them fair accounts. Because they are accurate, but not blind. They are fair: they are open-eyed to the concrete needs of people and the social state,” he asserted.
