Mobile phone and other goods stolen in Alvalade and they escape on a scooter

Two young men were arrested last Sunday on suspicion of committing robbery with physical violence and threat in the Alvalade district of Lisbon.

The Public Security Police (PSP) reported the arrests occurred around 2:30 a.m. while officers were patrolling the area and were approached by a citizen who claimed to have been assaulted and robbed moments earlier by two individuals who fled on an electric scooter to an unknown location.

The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP stated that the victim, a male citizen, reported that around 9:55 p.m., he was accosted by the suspects “who, after assaulting him with punches and kicks, seized a crossbody bag containing personal documents and a mobile phone.”

Police then initiated efforts to locate and intercept the suspects. Moments later, at 10:11 p.m., they spotted two individuals on a scooter matching the description and attire provided by the victim. As the officers approached in the police vehicle, the suspects began to flee on foot in different directions, leading to a chase that resulted in both being intercepted.

The suspects, aged between 18 and 20, underwent a “detailed search” while ensuring “their modesty and physical integrity.” The PSP found in possession of one suspect a citizen card, a credit card, and a transport pass, all belonging to the victim, as well as nine twenty-euro banknotes. The other suspect was not carrying any illicit items.

According to the PSP, the “victim identified the two suspects as the perpetrators of the robbery, resulting in their arrest.”

The police investigation facilitated the recovery of various items belonging to the victim, including personal documents. The banknotes found with one of the detained were also seized.

The two suspects, both without identification documents at the time of arrest, were later identified and informed of their procedural rights and duties, appearing for an initial judicial interrogation at Lisbon’s Criminal Investigation Court. They were subjected to the coercive measure of thrice-weekly reporting.
