Moedas calls for a confident vote, saying “2 days to victory.”

In a campaign walk in Chiado, Carlos Moedas drew hundreds of supporters to his candidacy “Por ti, Lisboa” – PSD/CDS-PP/IL to encourage votes in the upcoming municipal elections on Sunday, in the same location previously occupied by candidates Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN) and João Ferreira (CDU-PCP/PEV).

Accompanied by his wife, Céline Abecassis, and Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, the Lisbon mayoral candidate confidently descended through Chiado, assuring victory.

During the walk, Moedas greeted passersby, including sanitation workers and municipal police, took selfies, and waved to those on sidewalks and watching from building windows.

Under blue and yellow smoke representing his campaign, alongside balloons and flags of PSD and CDS-PP, supporters wore t-shirts emblazoned with Moedas’ face.

Supporters chanted slogans like, “Moedas, friend, Lisbon is with you”; “Just two days to victory”; “We only want Moedas for president”; “Lisbon be alert, the right choice is here.”

Speaking to the press near Armazéns do Chiado, Moedas dismissed talk of a possible absolute majority victory, urged by PSD leader and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro: “What I ask of the citizens of Lisbon is to give one more vote, not to go back, for everyone to come out and vote, for everyone to be with us,” he said.

The candidate emphasized that Sunday’s choice is between his campaign and Alexandra Leitão’s, asserting, “It is a very important day to choose between going back or moving forward, between growth or stagnation, between a moderate policy known to residents and a radical policy,” as seen “in recent days.”

“Lisbon’s citizens know that the more votes, the better for what my project is, but what I want is one more vote to be mayor,” he argued, defending that his project “has concrete results, aims to advance the city, and is already acting.”

“The others have no project, so there is one vote, the only one that counts, the vote in Carlos Moedas’ project, so we don’t vote back, so we don’t retreat,” he emphasized, expressing “great confidence” in achieving “a better result than four years ago,” but noted that it depends on the mobilization of citizens.

The PSD/CDS-PP/IL lead candidate criticized Alexandra Leitão, accusing her of “lacking a true project for Lisbon, having no topics, having nothing,” and considering her proposed measures to be implemented in the first 30 days, particularly in urban sanitation, “so ridiculous.”

“No one can tell Lisbon’s citizens they will solve the sanitation issue in 30 days, as this isn’t true and they won’t be fooled,” he said, disagreeing with Leitão’s idea of increasing decentralization in this area.

Moedas also linked Leitão’s candidacy to the “radical left,” which “wants to bring hatred and friction to society.”

Addressing the accident involving the Glória elevator, the PSD/CDS-PP/IL candidate stated “it’s a shame and absurd to politicize a tragedy,” accusing the Socialist Party of lacking measures and wanting to politicize a tragedy.

Regarding complaints of insufficient contact with victims and their families from this tragedy, the PSD mayor responded by referencing the “Russiagate” incident involving former Lisbon mayor Fernando Medina (PS).

“I don’t disclose private conversations unlike others who revealed people’s identities in Lisbon to Russian ministries. I don’t do that. I spoke with all families. They were all supported,” he assured.

The campaign walk concluded at Praça do Município, where Carlos Moedas was carried on shoulders before delivering a brief speech with candidates from “Por ti, Lisboa,” urging votes while proclaiming victory.

“Our Lisbon has already chosen to move forward, not backward. We know this and feel it in the streets every day. We felt it during this campaign,” he declared, concluding by stating that “only two days remain to victory.”

“There is only one vote to advance with Lisbon. There’s only one vote that has a project for Lisbon. There’s only one vote of moderation in Lisbon and only one vote with a huge team standing behind me, a team that will continue to change Lisbon. There’s only one vote; it’s the ‘Por ti, Lisboa’ vote, it’s the ‘Moedas 2025’ vote,” he highlighted.

In addition to Carlos Moedas and Alexandra Leitão, candidates running for Lisbon City Council include João Ferreira (CDU-PCP/PEV), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega), Ossanda Líber (Nova Direita), José Almeida (Volt), Adelaide Ferreira (ADN), Tomaz Ponce Dentinho (PPM/PTP), and Luís Mendes (RIR).
