Lisbon has never needed leadership as much as it does now. Lisbon possesses that leadership. Leadership is not just for good times, nor is it about rushing to TV platforms, formalities, or meetings. Leadership is about making the right decisions at the right time,” stated Carlos Moedas during the Lisbon Municipal Assembly meeting.
In the session dedicated to presenting the executive’s work from June to August, the mayor focused his speech on the accident involving the Glória elevator, which occurred on Wednesday, resulting in 16 deaths and injuring over two dozen people.
Declaring that “now is the time for courage” and noting that “it is easier to criticize, assign blame, and shirk responsibilities,” Carlos Moedas asserted, “I cannot afford such lightness, I have to govern and I will continue to govern the city. That is my political responsibility, and I will not shy away from it.”
“None of us here, in this room, could have imagined what would happen,” remarked the PSD mayor, emphasizing that as the Mayor of Lisbon, he is “here for better or worse.”
“I stand alongside the people of Lisbon as the main political figure, as I did on that fateful night,” he added, stressing that the tragedy of the Glória elevator accident “was unimaginable.”
Regarding Chega’s motion of censure, which the Municipal Assembly dismissed, Carlos Moedas commented that the motion did not aim to support the victims or their families.
