“We have an active front between the villages of Toitam, Semitela, and Nacomba,” said Miguel David, the regional commander of Emergency and Civil Protection of the Viseu Dão Lafões Sub-Regional Command.
Miguel David could not specify the number of residents present tonight in the three villages but assured that the populations are not alone, as firefighters are present in each community.
According to Civil Protection, 447 firefighters, 124 vehicles, and four tracked machines are on site with the mission of “opening paths towards the fire fronts to allow the entry of fire trucks.”
The fire is burning intensely and is the incident in Portugal with the highest number of personnel fighting the flames tonight.
