A Polícia Judiciária (PJ) has detained a man for setting fire to a shack in Moita, Setúbal district, where two men were present.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning, following a dispute between the suspect and three other men, which resulted in the suspect, aged 26, being charged with arson.
The authorities reported that the suspect was robbed of his mobile phone by the trio, leading to a violent altercation.
“As a result of the altercation, the suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment. Upon discharge, learning that one of the aggressors lived in a shack, he intentionally set it on fire using a flammable liquid,” detailed the PJ.
The suspect ignited the shack with direct flame, leading to its complete destruction. The two residents managed to escape unharmed.
The suspect, who uses drugs and has no criminal record, resides in abandoned houses and engages in thefts. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday for a hearing to determine appropriate measures.
