Luís Montenegro, in a playful sports metaphor, addressed questions about how the CDS-PP would fit into a political team duo, saying, “They’d surely be there for all the team work needed,” while speaking to journalists, shirtless and wet from a swim.
The beach volleyball game participated in by Montenegro with friends — a usual Sunday activity for the politician and also the Prime Minister — was not part of the AD’s campaign schedule for the elections, although the media was informed in advance.
On Saturday, IL President Rui Rocha also engaged in beach volleyball during his campaign and extended an invitation to those desiring change, hinting at potential post-election alliances with the AD.
During a rally on Saturday in Famalicão, CDS-PP leader Nuno Melo emphasized that the AD “is a coalition between two parties, the CDS and the PSD,” while Montenegro called for “a grand coalition with the Portuguese” in the May 18 elections.
Today, after about half an hour of playing and a dip in the sea, the leader of the PSD was asked if he would also be open to playing with Rui Rocha, similar to Rocha’s expressed willingness.
“I wouldn’t mind either. In fact, he probably got inspired for that appeal to volleyball here in Espinho. He previously lived here, must have felt inspired, surely, and that’s great,” Montenegro said.
When asked if he could form a good duo with the IL leader, Montenegro replied, “I don’t know what he plays, but I’ll assume yes. We always start from a positive attitude.”
