Montenegro begins an official visit to Japan today with a program in Tokyo.

After a two-day official visit to China, Luís Montenegro arrived in Tokyo on Wednesday evening, having traveled from the Macau Special Administrative Region.

In Japan, the official agenda will commence with a meeting between the Prime Minister and his Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, with a joint press conference scheduled afterward.

The Japanese Prime Minister is resigning following the defeat in the legislative elections in July.

The Portuguese leader will then proceed to Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) for meetings with senior representatives from about a dozen Japanese multinational companies.

The last item on today’s agenda is a meeting at the Portuguese embassy, where Luís Montenegro will meet with athletes participating in the World Athletics Championship, taking place from September 13 to 21.

On Friday, the final day of this official visit, the Prime Minister will travel by train to Osaka, where he will visit the Portugal and Japan pavilions at Expo Osaka.

Expo Osaka concludes on October 13, with Portugal being one of the 161 countries participating in the exhibition themed: “Designing Future Societies for Our Lives.”

Portugal’s participation in the exhibition centers around the theme “Ocean: Blue Dialogue,” involving more than 150 companies, associations, municipalities, and national artists.
