“Luís Montenegro is unable to bring political stability to the country due to the suspicions surrounding him, suspicions that will continue regardless of any electoral outcome. The only solution for political stability in Portugal is through the Socialist Party, with a PS government over the years,” argued Pedro Nuno Santos.
The PS leader was speaking at a rally held this afternoon at the Super Bock Arena – Rosa Mota Pavilion in Porto, which was close to reaching full capacity.
“In the past two months, Luís Montenegro has been the primary source of political instability in Portugal. He is currently the main factor of political instability and will continue to be in the future, should the misfortune of an AD electoral victory occur,” he stated.
Pedro Nuno Santos asserted the role of the PS as the guarantor of stability, noting that “over the years, it has indeed been the PS governments that have managed to ensure political stability in this country.”
“And we guarantee political stability in Portugal even when we did not have majorities. We have always had the capacity to engage in dialogue, to construct solutions with others, with Portuguese society, and with other parties,” he recalled.
“This party exercises responsibility while in opposition. This party can ensure political stability in the country. We do not throw the country into elections at the slightest pressure,” he continued, reiterating a criticism previously made during a debate with Luís Montenegro on Wednesday.
Previously, Pedro Nuno Santos also noted that the PS has consistently displayed “a sense of responsibility” throughout nearly a year of AD governance.
“The AD cannot complain about the PS. From the start, we provided all the conditions for governability so they could do their job. We only head to elections due to the sole responsibility of the outgoing prime minister, who preferred to call elections rather than provide explanations,” he criticized.
