The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, today described Madeira as “a pearl” of the country, acknowledging all residents of Porto Santo and Madeira on the autonomous region’s day and promising cooperation towards the island’s future.
“A region rich in resources and natural beauty, Madeira is a pearl of our country. On this Day of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and the Madeiran Communities, I greet all Porto Santo residents and Madeirans and renew the commitment to continue working together for the region’s future,” Luís Montenegro wrote in a post on the social media platform X.

The Regional Government of Madeira has been led by Miguel Albuquerque since 2015, following nearly four decades of governance under Alberto João Jardim and leadership of the Madeira PSD.
