Montenegro condemns Russian attacks on Ukraine: “Unacceptable”

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro condemned on Sunday the “intolerable” Russian attacks on the Ukrainian city of Sumy, which resulted in at least 32 fatalities, including two children, and 99 injuries.

“The Russian attacks on the city of Sumy are intolerable. All solidarity with the victims and with President Zelensky. Russia continues to flagrantly violate international law. Portugal stands with Ukraine and supports the ceasefire proposed by the U.S.”, Montenegro expressed on X (formerly Twitter).

The assault took place on Sunday morning in downtown Sumy, located in the northeastern part of the country.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, disclosed that “many civilians were killed and injured,” condemning the attack as “absolute evil” given its occurrence during a major Christian festival.

On the same morning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for a “strong world response” to the attack.

“We need a strong world response. America, Europe, everyone who wants this war and these deaths to stop. Russia wants precisely this kind of terror and is dragging this war on”, emphasized the Ukrainian Head of State.

“The enemy missiles hit an ordinary street in the city, an ordinary life: houses, schools, cars on the street… And this on a day when people go to church, Palm Sunday”, described Zelensky, as reported by the Efe news agency.
