The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, announced today that the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly will increase by 40 euros next year, rising to 670 euros, a measure that will be included in the OE2026.
Luís Montenegro, president of the PSD, made this announcement during a speech as part of an electoral campaign event for the upcoming local elections in Évora.
The Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly, whose increase in 2026 was previously mentioned, is a monthly financial support for elderly and disabled pensioners with low incomes, who do not receive the social benefit intended for people with disabilities.
Following his speech in Évora, Montenegro was asked by journalists if he fears criticisms of electioneering following this announcement.
“I don’t fear anything, my responsibility is to share our vision for the country, to share the strategic sense that, in the case of the PSD, we provide in the various forms of intervention we have,” he stated.
The government is expected to include in the State Budget proposal for 2026 an increase of 40 euros to the Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly. The rise of this social benefit had already been announced by the Prime Minister.

Montenegro stated that the electoral campaign for Sunday’s local elections is taking place in a context where the government “has the obligation to present to the Assembly of the Republic the Budget,” next Friday.
“The fact that some people might say its presentation has an electoralist aspect means they see themselves in the content of the Budget, because something is only electoralist if it pleases voters,” he asserted.
The leader of the PSD considered that, if there are criticisms from the opposition in this regard, he can only be satisfied “with the recognition that the Budget may be good for people, because that is the objective.”
