Montenegro denies “insinuation” and delay with Spinumviva documents

The case involving Spinumviva reemerges as Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s office denies making any insinuations about the Public Prosecutor’s Office and assures it is “calm.”

The delay in concluding the process involving the company now controlled by Montenegro’s children is reported to be linked to the prime minister’s alleged delay in responding.

Confronted with these reports, Montenegro’s office denied any delay in responding to requests made by authorities and rejected claims of providing incomplete responses.

Montenegro labeled these accusations as “incorrect,” both regarding the response time and the number of requests (one during the legislative election campaign and another now ahead of the local elections) as well as the content of the replies, asserting they were never incomplete.

Therefore, the prime minister’s office denied any responsibility for the investigation’s duration. However, he refused to disclose the dates he received or sent the requested information, stating he “does not disclose procedural information,” also leaving unanswered whether the requested documentation has been sent.

The prime minister claims that the requests for documentation coincide with two election campaigns, suggesting, according to reports, political motivations in the timing chosen by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary Police.

Pressed by journalists about his response and the association between these dates, Montenegro denied making any insinuations: “Who said that? […]. There’s no insinuation.”

“The clarification is straightforward. My office informed the newspaper that I received two clarification requests: one during the legislative election campaign and another now on the eve of the local elections. That’s a fact, not an insinuation.”
