Montenegro expresses “condolences” for the death of Portuguese woman in Brazil

The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, offered his condolences this Saturday to the family of the Portuguese woman who died in a plane crash in Brazil.

“In this moment of profound grief and dismay, I express, on my personal behalf, on behalf of the Government and the Portuguese people, our most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Gracinda Castelo Silva for her tragic death in the plane accident in São Paulo,” wrote the Prime Minister in a post on the social network X.

The death of a Portuguese citizen was confirmed this Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Gracinda Marina Castelo da Silva was 47 years old and would have celebrated another birthday on the 27th of this month.

The Portuguese woman, who held dual citizenship, had been living in Brazil for several years. She had been married for 25 years and had three children. She was traveling with her husband, a Brazilian citizen named Nélvio José Hubner.

The plane crash caused the death of all 61 people on board, including 57 passengers and four crew members. The aircraft, which was flying between Cascavel and São Paulo, crashed around 1:25 PM (5:25 PM Lisbon time) on Friday.
