
“I received with great consternation the tragic news of the fire at the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mirandela,” stated Luís Montenegro on social media platform X, offering “heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes for a swift recovery to all the injured.”
“I also appreciate the tremendous efforts of those who prevented the incident from escalating further,” he noted.
Six elderly residents from the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mirandela perished today in a fire at the facility, which also injured 25 people, five of them seriously, who were transported to hospitals in Mirandela, Macedo de Cavaleiros, and Bragança.
The PJ is investigating the incident.

In response to the severity of the situation, the municipality of Mirandela, located in the district of Bragança, declared three days of mourning.
