Luís Montenegro addressed a rally at the market in Vila Nova de Famalicão (Braga), after being carried on the shoulders of party youth members who escorted him to the stage, representing the AD — a coalition of PSD/CDS-PP.
“I take advantage of this warm reception I feel here in Famalicão, in Minho, to express that I feel a renewed sense of will, conviction, and strengthened determination from what everyone has conveyed to me and seeing that everyone else is looking at us: I feel the responsibility to be the beacon of this country and to lead this country forward,” he declared.
Montenegro stated that “the AD’s campaign has been spectacular,” both for the support received and the ideas presented, while suggesting that the other parties have only commented on their initiatives.
“In this campaign, we can say that we bring the light, the torch, while looking to the side, we see professionals of the rear-view mirror, always looking back when we only want to look forward,” he criticized.
He then addressed governance, accusing the opposition of wasting time trying to understand what AD will do after the elections to ensure stability.
“We will guarantee this coalition hand in hand with the Portuguese people, our coalition is with the people, that’s what guides us, that’s what I’m focused on, and that’s where I ask for your help to firm the largest coalition agreement necessary to provide stability to Portugal, which is the trust of the Portuguese people,” he urged, assuring that “there is no boogeyman” in the PSD/CDS-PP coalition.
Admitting that all indicators point to an AD victory, Montenegro warned of “a small detail,” reiterating that everyone must vote, asserting that prioritizing stability can only be done with this political force.
“If that’s what people want, then everyone must vote massively for the only project that guarantees stability (…) Trust us, give us a larger majority, and we will know how to reciprocate,” he stated.
