Montenegro head of list for Aveiro. Other prominent leaders

The President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Luís Montenegro, will lead the party’s list for the Aveiro electoral district in the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 18. Notably, eleven ministers are also featured in this list, revealed on Wednesday.

The Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, will head the list for Castelo Branco, while the Minister of Justice, Rita Júdice, will lead in Coimbra.

Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento will be the top candidate for the Lisbon district, and António Leitão Amaro, the Minister of the Presidency, will compete in Viseu.

Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel is positioned as the lead candidate for Porto, with current Health Minister Ana Paula Martins heading the Vila Real district.

Agriculture Minister José Manuel Fernandes will run for the European district, and Minister of the Environment Maria Graça Carvalho is listed as number one for Faro.

The Minister of Youth, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, will lead the list for Leiria, and Minister of Territorial Cohesion Manuel Castro Almeida, for Portalegre. Meanwhile, Education Minister Fernando Alexandre is the top candidate for Santarém.

José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, the President of the Assembly of the Republic, will lead the PSD list for the Viana do Castelo district, just as in the 2024 legislative elections.

Hugo Soares, the Secretary-General and Parliamentary Leader of the PSD, will return to compete for the Braga district.

After stepping down as Secretary of State for Local Administration and Spatial Planning amid controversy, Hernâni Dias returns as the top candidate for Bragança.

Miguel Pinto Luz, the current Minister for Infrastructure and Housing, previously leading in Faro, is not included among the leading candidates announced by the PSD in their statement.

Returning as top candidates are Gonçalo Valente for Beja, José Cesário for the external district of Europe, Dulcineia Moura for Guarda, and Teresa Morais for Setúbal.

Francisco Figueira will head the list for Évora, replacing Sónia Ramos, who will be a local candidate in Estremoz.

These names were approved at Wednesday’s meeting of the National Political Commission of the PSD and will be voted on with other candidates for the early legislative elections on May 18 in the party’s National Council, scheduled for 9:00 p.m. at a hotel in Lisbon.

The list does not include the lead candidates for the Azores and Madeira, which are approved by their respective district political commissions.
