Luís Montenegro stated on Wednesday during a campaign event in Castelo Branco that he is cooperating with the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the Spinumviva case.
“I must provide all explanations directly to the Public Prosecutor and not through the press,” said the Prime Minister, noting that this is also the expected conduct from this body.
“The Public Prosecutor should communicate with me through the process, and that is what is happening,” he assured, emphasizing that on his “end, everything is being handled with due diligence and availability.”
The PSD leader also stated that all “procedural participants should use their intervention to promote the discovery of the truth.”
“That is the objective, and that is my interest,” he asserted.
Spinumviva Case Resurfaces
The family business of Prime Minister Luís Montenegro is once again a focal point in the electoral campaign. In the run-up to the municipal elections scheduled for next Sunday, October 12, the Spinumviva case resurfaced this Tuesday.
The investigation into the activities of the company, “the construction of Montenegro’s house in Espinho, and the origin of the funds for acquiring two apartments in Lisbon, all of which are part of the Prime Minister’s asset portfolio, is believed to be resolvable only through a formal criminal process that must be initiated in the Supreme Court of Justice,” according to CNN Portugal.
Moreover, the inquiry may be “categorized with suspicions of potential crimes of illicit gain and money laundering,” the television channel highlighted.
The conclusions from the prosecutors, as reported by CNN, follow a thorough analysis by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) of all complaints and allegations regarding possible crimes associated with Luís Montenegro, which led to a preventive investigation announced six months ago.
Montenegro Condemns Reports as “Shameful”
This Tuesday, the Prime Minister expressed being “astonished and outraged” by the nature of the reports published concerning the case, describing them as “shameful” and stating that he awaits the “analysis and judgment from the Public Prosecutor.”
The Office of the Attorney General clarified that the preventive investigation associated with the Spinumviva company is ongoing, with the Public Prosecutor still expecting documentation, indicating that the investigation continues.
