The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, described the Russian attack on Ukraine this Thursday, August 28, as “shocking” and “intolerable,” which resulted in 14 deaths and nearly 50 injuries.
“In light of the shocking and intolerable Russian attack on Ukraine, all solidarity with the Ukrainian people and President Zelensky,” the Portuguese Head of Government wrote on the social media platform X.
As Montenegro recalls, the attack on Kyiv caused “dozens of civilian casualties, deaths, injuries, spread destruction, and intolerably hit the European Union Delegation” based in the capital of Ukraine.
In response, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgency for “Russia to stop the aggression and respect Ukraine’s integrity.”

Russian Attack on Kyiv
Kyiv was targeted by Russian ballistic missile attacks in the early hours, causing damage in at least three neighborhoods in the capital of Ukraine.
At least 14 people were killed and 48 were injured in the attack carried out with 629 drones and missiles.
The President of the European Council, António Costa, also reported on X that Russian missiles struck the European Union delegation in Kyiv.

Also on X, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, remarked that “the EU delegation staff in Ukraine are the EU’s voice on the ground in Ukraine, and last night their offices were targeted by yet another indiscriminate attack by Russia during this senseless aggression.”
The EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, noted, “while the world seeks a path to peace, Russia responds with missiles.”
“The nighttime attack on Kyiv demonstrates a deliberate choice to escalate and mock the peace efforts. Russia must stop the killings and negotiate,” stated the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
