“Regarding the National Election Commission (CNE), what I can observe is that most of the complaints that have been filed have been archived, meaning that, as far as I know, no actions have been attributed to any member of the Government or any political party,” stated Luís Montenegro, speaking in Valpaços, where he is visiting the Feira do Folar today.
When asked about the complaints submitted to the CNE, the PSD president noted that it is a “pre-election period and everything is liable to be considered.”
“We will be available to respond, as we have done, to those allegations made against us. When we are notified of these allegations, we provide our response,” he emphasized.
Today, it was reported that the CNE has decided to send to the Public Prosecutor’s Office a complaint by the Socialist Party (PS) against the Ministry of Finance, considering that there are “indications of the crime of violating duties of neutrality and impartiality.”
According to the CNE’s decision, the complaint was filed by the PS against the Minister of State and Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, for sending on March 28 a communication to workers and leaders of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), which the socialists consider to violate the duties of neutrality and impartiality “imposed on public entities during election periods.”
The CNE believes that the Minister of Finance, using state resources, issued a communication that goes beyond “a message of appreciation for the work of the IGF,” as alleged by the Ministry, and promoted and praised the government’s Public Administration reform plan.
During this visit to Feira do Folar de Valpaços, in the Vila Real district, Luís Montenegro was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, who heads the AD – the PSD – CDS coalition list for the Vila Real district, in addition to other candidates for the May 18 legislative and municipal elections.
