Montenegro says the Government has no “ghosts” and criticizes “disturbances”

The prime minister and leader of the PSD spoke at the annual event of the Madeira social-democratic structure, held at Herdade do Chão da Lagoa, located in the mountains above Funchal. This is the largest party event organized in the region, attended by thousands of people and all regional leaders.

During his speech, Luís Montenegro urged trust in the governmental project, emphasizing that the AD executive will continue to create more wealth, as “the best way to combat poverty is by creating wealth.”

“We need to have good human resources […] and we also need to attract and integrate our immigrants well,” he alerted, quickly addressing critics of the immigration policies promoted by the executive.

“When others look at us and see that a policy of regulation and dignification of immigration means hatred to them, they do not know the reality ahead,” he stated, adding, “And those who do not know the reality ahead show that they are not at the level of having government responsibility in Portugal.”

Luís Montenegro described the PSD party at Herdade do Chão da Lagoa as “unique in Portugal,” stating it is a great gathering of the “social-democrat family” and a “celebration of Portuguese identity.”

“We, in the national PSD, are very proud of PSD/Madeira and what it has achieved over the past 50 years,” he said, after visiting the 54 food and drink stalls representing the political commissions from the region’s 54 parishes, as well as stalls from the JSD, TSD, and the Emigrant’s Nucleus.

The prime minister also promised solutions for some of the pending dossiers between the Republic and autonomous region, led by the PSD since 1976, particularly the review of the regional finance law.

“The Republic’s Government is committed to working with the autonomous regions to have a regional finance law that provides predictability and sustainability to regional finances so that there are conditions to serve the people of the autonomous regions,” he declared.

The prime minister assured that the national executive will continue to co-finance the new Central and University Hospital of Funchal, one of the largest public works currently underway in the country, budgeted at over 340 million euros.

He also guaranteed that the executive will create the conditions to deploy a digital platform for processing the reimbursement of the social mobility subsidy.

Luís Montenegro stressed that the PSD/CDS-PP executive is of “social-democratic inspiration” and “leaves no one behind,” citing examples such as tax cuts and the pensioners’ supplement.

“The executive’s intention is not electoralist, but of social justice,” he argued.
