“Montenegro thinks that elections will solve the problem. He is mistaken.”

The spokesperson for the Socialist Party’s (PS) candidacy in the legislative elections, during the Antena 1 podcast ‘Política com Assinatura’, argued that if Luís Montenegro “thinks these elections will solve his problem, he is mistaken”.

Marcos Perestrello expressed that Luís Montenegro should not have used the office of Prime Minister to address issues related to his professional life before being elected as the head of government, labeling this as “an absolutely unacceptable mix from an ethical standpoint, intolerable from a democratic point of view”.

In the same interview, the Socialist deputy asserted that should the PSD and CDS win the legislative elections on May 18, “this would challenge the stability of the next government”.

Regarding the possibility of the PS forming a new left-wing coalition, Perestrello admitted that this is “an unlikely scenario,” as, in his view, the other left-wing parties have “unfortunately” not shown the maturity or willingness to build government solutions in recent years.

According to the parliamentarian, the PS is indeed “obligated to win the elections”.

It should be noted that following a political crisis involving the Prime Minister’s family businesses, which triggered several motions of censure and confidence, the country is headed to early legislative elections on May 18, the third such occurrence in just three years.
