The Attorney General, Amadeu Guerra, stated on Tuesday, December 9, that the documents requested from Prime Minister Luís Montenegro in connection with the Spinumviva case “have all been delivered” but also “took time to be handed over.”
On the sidelines of a session about International Anti-Corruption Day at a school in Loures, Amadeu Guerra expressed regret that it took “some time for [the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP)] to obtain the documents.”
“In the meantime, the judicial holidays intervened, but that is no excuse. I have always wanted a swift decision. Now, there are many volumes and a lot of evidence being analyzed. Therefore, we hope to have a solution soon,” he stated, expressing hope for developments before the end of the year, specifically before the start of the Christmas judicial holidays on December 22.
“There is a lot of documentation to review. Documentation was requested from the prime minister, Spinumviva, and Spinumviva’s clients. Everything was verified. I have said and I repeat that the documents were not delivered as swiftly as we desired. I hope and I am convinced that there will be developments soon,” he reiterated.
“I have absolutely no agendas”
Regarding the release of wiretaps concerning former Prime Minister António Costa in the Influencer operation, Amadeu Guerra said he “was dissatisfied” with the release. “I am always dissatisfied when the secrecy of justice is violated, and I have always said so and maintain this position. I am not pleased with these situations. I have absolutely no agendas,” he remarked, adding that he also dislikes the fact that the process remains unresolved two years after it began.
“I advocate that processes should be swift, but there are challenges, notably regarding international judicial cooperation, which does not always provide timely responses,” he said, noting that António Costa “is not a suspect, not a defendant.”
