Monthly pass for Coimbra’s intermodal system will cost between 30 and 40 euros.

A new transport ticket, AGIT, will integrate travel across the Urban Transport Services of Coimbra (SMTUC), the Mondego Mobility System (SMM), and the services operated by the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region (CIMRC).

The proposal for the tariff and revenue distribution model of AGIT is set to be discussed at Monday’s meeting of the Coimbra City Council, as announced by the municipality today.

A press release states that the monthly pass will be priced at 30 euros for travel within one municipality, 35 euros for two, and 40 euros for more than two municipalities in the Coimbra region.

The pricing aligns with the metropolitan systems of Porto and Lisbon, where the cost is 30 euros for travel within a municipality and 40 euros for the entire metropolitan area.

According to Coimbra City Council, a pre-paid AGIT ticket will range from one to three euros, depending on the number of municipalities involved in the journey.

Passengers will also be able to purchase single tickets on board, as well as tickets valid for one day, three days, and seven days.

Pass options will include various modalities and discounts, such as reduced rates for those under 23 or for former combatants, among other categories.

With 19 municipalities in the Coimbra Region, there will be 19 internal zones associated with this intermodal system.

Documentation linked to the process reveals that AGIT will sustain its operations through a commission on the sale of any travel tickets.

Coimbra City Council, as the transport authority, holds 49.9% of AGIT’s share capital, with the remaining 50.1% belonging to the CIM of the Coimbra Region.

The tariff proposal to be voted on at Monday’s meeting follows previously endorsed values from a study that supported AGIT’s definition, indicating monthly passes between 30 to 40 euros.

The expectation is that AGIT’s tariffs and ticketing will be ready in time for the SMM’s launch, with its first phase expected to begin in the summer between Serpins (Lousã) and Portagem (Coimbra).
