How is oil faring in international markets?
The Brent barrel for January delivery ended Friday’s session on the London futures market with a significant rise of 2.19%, closing at $64.39.
The North Sea crude, a benchmark in Europe, closed the session at the Intercontinental Exchange, trading $1.38 above the $63.01 mark at the close of transactions on Thursday.
Despite a highly volatile week, during which it hit the lowest levels since October 21, Brent ended with a 1.19% increase compared to the previous week.
The price surged on Friday by more than 2% after reports that the port of Novorossiysk in southwestern Russia had suspended oil exports following a Ukrainian attack, raising investor fears about potential disruptions in Russian oil supply.
The port of Novorossiysk is central to Russia’s energy infrastructure as it exports 2% of the world’s supply, equivalent to 2.2 million barrels daily.
