More than 14,800 complaints of domestic violence were registered in the first half of this year, a slight increase over the same period in 2022, according to data released today, which recorded 12 homicides in that context.
According to the domestic violence portal, available on the website of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), between January and June there were 12 homicides in the context of domestic violence, five less than in the same period last year.
Of the 12 dead, 10 were women, one was a child and one was a man.
The data indicate that PSP and GNR registered 14,863 complaints related to domestic violence in the first six months of the year, 490 more than in the same period of 2022.
The portal, which publishes quarterly statistics on crimes and voluntary homicides in the context of domestic violence, also indicates that 1,310 people were detained in June for this crime, 324 of whom were in pre-trial detention and 986 in effective detention.
According to the data, at the end of June 1,159 defendants were serving coercive measures in the context of the crime of domestic violence, 892 of whom were under electronic surveillance, an increase of 103 compared to the same period in 2022.
A total of 2,438 people were integrated in programs for offenders at the end of the first semester, 189 of them in prison and 2,249 in the community.
According to the CIG, 234 victims were transported until June and 4,836 protection measures were applied by teleassistance in the context of the crime of domestic violence.
The data also indicate that 740 women, 693 children and 17 men, out of a total of 1,459, were welcomed in the National Network for Supporting Victims of Domestic Violence.
