
A fire that has been burning since early morning in Tabosa, Viseu district, engaged 157 firefighters and 42 apparatus by 07:00, according to Márcio Teles, commander of the Mangualde fire department, who noted that aerial support had been requested.
The fire alert was issued around 01:20 today in the parish of Fornos de Maceira Dão, Tabosa, Mangualde municipality. According to the fire department commander, by 07:00 there was still an active front in an area with difficult access.
“We expect to have aerial support soon, which may help control the fire within an hour or an hour and a half. The entire perimeter of the fire is already in consolidation and aftermath stages,” stated Mário Teles.
The commander reported that the topography and strong winds pushed the fire toward the industrial area of Salgueiro, although it did not reach it. Some isolated homes were protected by teams, and there was no immediate risk.
As reported by the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, 1,582 firefighters and 509 apparatus were tackling five active fires at 07:30.
Besides the fire in Mangualde, blazes were burning in Penamacor, Ponte de Lima, Ponte da Barca, and Arouca.
