More than 170 were fighting at 11:45 PM fires in Montalegre and Vila Real.

The fire in Pisões, Viade de Baixo, and Fervidelas, in the municipality of Montalegre, began late this afternoon and continued with an active front by nightfall.

The operational resources have been reinforced with a bulldozer, and currently, no residences are at risk, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).

As of 23:45, the fire involved 86 operatives, supported by 28 vehicles.

Starting at 20:45, the fire in Quintelas, Mondrões, in the Alvão mountain range, municipality of Vila Real, was being tackled by 87 operatives with 23 ground resources.

The fire originated in Quintelas and is moving towards Sirarelhos, on the lower part of this village that was unaffected by the large fire from August 2 to 13. According to an ANEPC source, the firefighting efforts are proving effective, and no homes are at risk.

Nonetheless, the fire is advancing in a difficult-to-access area, adding to the challenge.

The Alvão mountain range in Vila Real was hit by a major fire between August 2 and 13, spreading to Mondim de Basto and burning 6,000 hectares, approximately 1,500 of which were within the Alvão Natural Park (PNA).

In Vila Real, the fire affected seven parishes and 30 localities.

Another significant occurrence noted on the ANEPC page, but now under control, was the fire that started and was managed on Sunday in Sabrosa, also in the district of Vila Real, involving 80 operatives and 24 vehicles.

Mainland Portugal has been affected by multiple large-scale rural fires since July, particularly in the North and Center regions.

The fires have resulted in four deaths, including a firefighter, several injuries, some severe, and the complete or partial destruction of primary and secondary residences, agricultural holdings, livestock farms, and forest areas.

According to provisional official data, as of August 23, about 250,000 hectares have burned in the country, more than 57,000 of which from the fire that started in Arganil.

Foreign aerial support operating in Portugal under the European Civil Protection Mechanism will remain in the country until Friday, according to ANEPC.
