The Public Security Police (PSP) conducted a significant operation early Sunday morning, leading to 21 arrests near nightlife establishments in Lisbon. This operation focused on traffic inspection and monitoring of alcohol consumption.
Superintendent José Sá Santos, speaking to RTP, explained, “This operation is part of the ‘Easter in Security 2025’ initiative being carried out nationwide. In Lisbon, we conducted inspections at four different locations where we found 13 drivers with blood alcohol levels above the legal limit, five driving without a license, one involved in dangerous driving, one arrested for attempting to run over a PSP officer, and another for disobedience, among other offenses detected throughout the night.”
The individual detained for attempting to run over a police officer “ignored the stop signal” and was subsequently pursued.
“Our officers followed him with full safety. The driver was arrested for attempting to run over a law enforcement officer, and everything proceeded smoothly. The arrest of this driver is currently being formalized,” added Superintendent Sá Santos.
On Saturday, the PSP reported that 88 individuals were arrested on the first day of the ‘Easter in Security’ operation, including 20 for driving without a license. Additionally, more than 870 doses of drugs were seized, and over 600 administrative offenses were recorded.
Among the arrests, the PSP highlighted 37 related to traffic offenses, specifically 20 for lacking legal driving authorization and 17 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The PSP’s operation has boosted their public presence, enhancing visibility and the capacity to prevent criminal offenses through community policing, thereby increasing citizens’ sense of security.
