More than 20 municipalities are at maximum fire risk this Friday.

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has declared several municipalities in the northern and central interior as well as the Algarve at very high and high risk of rural fires.

The Institute forecasts that the risk of rural fire will decrease on Saturday.

This risk level, determined by IPMA, has five categories ranging from low to maximum. Calculations are derived from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and the amount of precipitation over the last 24 hours.

For today, IPMA forecasts for the mainland include periods of heavy cloud cover, becoming mostly clear in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve, light rain in the northern and central coastal areas, strong winds in the southern coastal strip and highlands, and a slight increase in maximum temperatures.

Minimum temperatures will range between 9 degrees Celsius in Guarda and 18 in Faro and Lisbon, with maximum temperatures between 20 in Viana do Castelo and 29 in Évora and Faro.
