More than 287,000 people vaccinated against flu and Covid-19 in the 1st week

The first weekly report on seasonal vaccination indicates that 182,222 people were vaccinated against the flu, with 100,240 receiving their shots in pharmacies and 81,935 at the National Health Service (SNS).

Meanwhile, in the first week of the seasonal vaccination campaign against Covid-19, 105,264 people were vaccinated, with more than half (58,169) through pharmacies and the remaining 47,095 at the SNS.

Under the slogan “Get vaccinated and protect the most important moments,” the seasonal campaign, which began on September 23, introduces free flu vaccinations for all children between 6 and 23 months and subsidized vaccinations for those aged 2 to 5 years.

The DGS recommends vaccination against the flu and Covid-19 for everyone over 60, chronic patients of all ages, and healthcare professionals, emphasizing the importance of immunization against these viruses.

Individuals aged 60 to 84 can get vaccinated at health centers or pharmacies. As in the previous campaign, those over 85, who are at greater risk of severe influenza, will have access to a vaccine with a boosted dose that provides extra protection.

Data shows that by September 28, 26,625 people aged 85 or older had been vaccinated against the flu, achieving the highest coverage rate at 7.97%. In the same age group, 18,721 individuals (5.61%) received the Covid-19 vaccine.

The total number of people aged 60 or older vaccinated against the flu reached 160,390 (5.34%) in the first week, with 97,433 (3.24%) receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

The age group with the lowest vaccination coverage against the flu in the first week is 60-69 years, with 3.61% (46,898 people vaccinated), which is similarly reflected in the Covid-19 vaccine, administered to 2% (25,959) of this population.

The autumn-winter 2025-2026 Seasonal Vaccination Campaign runs until April 30, 2026, in SNS health units and 2,500 community pharmacies, with the DGS aiming to vaccinate approximately 2.5 million against the flu and 1.5 million against Covid-19 by Christmas.

The latest bulletin for the 2024-2025 seasonal vaccination campaign indicates that over 2.4 million (2,405,201) people received the flu vaccine while nearly 1.6 million (1,569,092) received the Covid-19 vaccine.
