More than 30 flights canceled at Madeira Airport due to strong winds

More than 30 flights were canceled today at Madeira International Airport, both arrivals and departures, and 15 were diverted to other airports due to strong winds in the eastern part of the island.

The website of ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal indicates the number of affected journeys, totaling 47, including cancellations and diverted flights, as of 6:30 PM, and urges passengers to confirm their flight status before heading to the airport.

ANA also warns that adverse weather conditions may affect operations (departures and arrivals) until Monday.

The Funchal Port Authority has extended the strong wind warning for the maritime area of the Madeira archipelago until 6:00 AM on Monday.

The warning, issued following instructions from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), has been in effect since Saturday when strong winds led to the cancellation of around 20 flights, both arrivals and departures.

Since June 30, more than 100 flights have been canceled at Madeira International Airport due to strong winds.
