More than 400 poems, manuscripts, photographs, postcards and books by Eugénio de Andrade, which are in the possession of the municipalities of Porto and Fundão, will, as of Friday, be available on a digital platform, the Porto City Council announced.
In a statement, Porto City Council revealed that the collections will be available in the first version of the Eugénio de Andrade Digital Library, which will be presented on Friday, the day of the poet’s birth, who was born in 1923 and died in 2005.
The presentation will take place at 11:30 in the house where the author lived in Porto and which will be the future hub of the “wandering library” as the Eugénio de Andrade House of Poetry, in Passeio Alegre.
The collections will be accessible for browsing through the design of the exhibition “Eugénio de Andrade: A Arte dos Versos”, curated by Jorge Sobrado and Rita Roque, who was present in both cities, the chronology of the author and the nature of the objects of the poet, who was born on January 19, 1923 in Póvoa de Atalaia, in the municipality of Fundão.
The Eugénio de Andrade Digital Library will be coordinated by the Oporto Museum and Libraries, and aims to “be another step towards democratizing the field of knowledge surrounding the poet, defending and valuing the author’s life and work,” said the municipality.
The launch of the digital platform is part of the celebrations for the poet’s centenary, which in 2023 united the municipalities of Porto and Fundão in a commemorative program, culminating in the signing of an inter-administrative cooperation contract.
With the launch of this digital library, there are now six branches of the Biblioteca Errante project.
