More than 50 districts of Faro, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarém, Viseu, Guarda and Bragança present today a maximum danger of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The IPMA has also placed more than 60 counties of Faro, Beja, Santarém, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Leiria, Lisbon, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda, Vila Real, and Bragança in very high danger.
Other counties in all districts of the continent, except Viana do Castelo, are now in high danger of fire.
Due to the warm weather, the fire danger will remain high until at least Saturday.
This risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum, and the calculations are obtained from the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the year, the 4,315 fire incidents have affected 9,185 hectares of rural areas.
The IPMA predicts for today on the continent slightly cloudy or clear sky, with morning cloudiness on the west coast, sometimes strong wind on the west coast south of Cabo da Roca, morning fog or mist in some parts of the North and Center coasts and decrease in maximum temperature, except in the eastern Algarve, and increase of the minimum.
The minimum temperatures will vary between 14 degrees Celsius (Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Bragança, Guarda, Viseu and Coimbra) and 21 (Faro) and the maximum between 22 (in Viana do Castelo) and 33 (in Castelo Branco).
