More than 55,000 people benefit from Young IMT in buying a house

This figure was announced during a statement to journalists, without any questions permitted, at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers in Lisbon, aimed at approving measures to address the housing crisis.

The Young IMT began its implementation in August 2024, introducing a tax table for beneficiaries that includes four tiers, providing full exemption for purchases within the first tier and an 8% tax rate applied to amounts in the next tier.

With the enactment of the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025) and a 2.3% update to the IMT tiers, the transaction value eligible for full exemption is now set at 324,058 euros (an increase of about seven thousand euros compared to 2024), while the portion taxed at 8% has risen to 648,022 euros (up from 633,453 euros in 2024).

To qualify for this automatically granted measure, young individuals must not have owned property in the three years prior to purchasing a home, and the age limit (35 years) is determined as of the date of the property deed.
