According to the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command (CREPC), a substantial firefighting force remains mobilized, stating that the situation is evolving as planned, without heightened concerns.
The source indicated that although the fire has been controlled, hot spots persist throughout the entire perimeter, potentially triggering minor flare-ups, requiring heightened vigilance from ground teams.
“The response has been effective, with aerial and ground resources acting in coordination to tackle these minor flare-ups, which were anticipated,” it was noted.
For consolidation and mop-up operations in the municipalities of Aljezur and Lagos, 689 personnel from various Civil Protection entities are deployed, supported by 220 vehicles and nine aircraft.
Additionally, 65 Portuguese Army soldiers, with the support of 20 vehicles, are involved in surveillance of the burned areas, land consolidation, and providing support to populations and civil authorities.
CREPC estimates that the burned area exceeds 2,000 hectares, including shrubland, pine, eucalyptus, and cork oak forests.
The regional command anticipates that consolidation and mop-up efforts will extend over the coming days until the fire is fully extinguished.
