A series of ModA exams for students in the 4th and 6th grades covering Portuguese, Mathematics, History and Geography of Portugal, and English were conducted digitally between May 19 and June 6.
In a report released today, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation (MECI) noted that 617,000 exams were completed, with an “average completion rate exceeding 90%.”
“Overall, the ModA exams proceeded smoothly and calmly, although there were occasional logistical issues which schools promptly addressed without hindering students from taking the exams,” stated the ministry.
According to the MECI, the digital format of these exams, similar to the final exams of the 3rd cycle that commenced today, was prepared by schools and ministry services since November, with surveys conducted with principals before and after trial exams in February and during the preparation for the official exams.
“Following each survey, MECI services contacted the individual school groups to assist in resolving reported issues,” stated the office of Minister Fernando Alexandre.
In addition to this support, the ministry allocated 15.4 million euros for the purchase and repair of computers or other IT equipment, although nearly half of the funds remained unused by the schools.
“Regarding the final exams for the 9th grade, the MECI authorized the hiring of 27 specialized network technicians for the 27 school groups that indicated a need following the latest survey,” it further detailed.
Although the ModA exams are mandatory, they do not contribute to student evaluations. Nonetheless, schools will receive reports per student and school at the start of the next academic year, and in November, a national report along with municipal reports will be published.
