More than 90,000 voters had registered by 12:00 noon today to vote in advance in mobility on March 3 in the legislative elections, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) announced.
“The number of people registered to vote in advance for the 2024 parliamentary elections totals 93,602 registered voters in Portugal as of 12 noon on Monday,” the MAI said in a statement.
Registered voters can register until Thursday to vote mobile next Sunday, a week before the legislative elections scheduled for March 10.
Under this method, voters register at a polling station of their choice in a municipality on the mainland or in the autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira, by electronic means at www.votoantecipado.mai.gov.pt, or by post sent to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
If the voter has registered to vote in mobility but is unable to exercise this right on the scheduled date, March 3, they can vote on the day of the legislative elections, March 10, at the polling station where they are registered.
Introduced with the entry into force of Organic Law no. 3/218, on the occasion of the election of Portuguese members of the European Parliament in 2019, the early mobile voting method was chosen by 285,848 in the 2022 legislative elections.
In the 2019 European elections, 13,455 voters voted mobile, a number that increased to 50,638 in the legislative elections of the same year, and to 197,903 in the 2021 presidential elections, held during the covid-19 pandemic.
