More than a hundred demonstrate in Lisbon for the end of hunger in Gaza

A demonstration that began at 18:20 was organized by the collective Occupy for Gaza and included participation from other activist groups calling for an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

For over five minutes, the protesters banged pots and pans while chanting: “end hunger.”

More than 110 people have died from malnutrition since the beginning of the war, including at least 80 children.

The ongoing war in Gaza was triggered by attacks led by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on October 7, 2023, in southern Israel. The attacks resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and more than two hundred hostages.

Israel’s retaliation has caused over 59,000 deaths and included the imposition of a blockade on essential goods to Gaza, such as food, drinking water, medication, and fuel.

Despite recently allowing the distribution of humanitarian aid, assistance is provided by a single entity, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, supported by Israel and the United States, and is deemed insufficient by the UN and various non-governmental organizations.
