The Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) seized 38 bales of narcotics on Monday, September 22, between Portugal and Spain.
The narcotics, amounting to 1,520 kilograms of hashish, were set to enter the south of the country via the Guadiana River.
However, prior to this, they were detected by the Integrated Surveillance, Command, and Control System (SIVICC) of the National Republican Guard (GNR).
During the operation, and in the presence of the Guard’s soldiers, the suspect vessel fled to Spanish waters, throwing dozens of bales into the sea.
The authorities managed to recover 38 of these bales, totaling 1.5 tons of drugs, according to a GNR statement.
The operation also involved the collaboration of the Spanish Guardia Civil, reinforcing the joint commitment to combating international maritime drug trafficking.
Authorities will provide further details on this operation later this afternoon.
