
The leader of the Left Bloc described the housing issue as “serious” but not “serious enough to persuade the Portuguese elites to make a decision to solve the problem.”
“The cost of housing is not just an issue for the poorest people,” she asserted.
Mariana Mortágua spoke at an event titled “Millionaire Rents, Young People at the Door” held at Casa do Brasil in Lisbon, where she emphasized that the housing crisis is a significant issue for young people. She characterized them as “a generation that cannot become independent.”
The coordinator of the Left Bloc further remarked that this is “a generation entering the job market, aware that they will not be able to afford rent, regardless of the taxes they pay on their salary.”
