A recent survey conducted by CESOP – Universidade Católica Portuguesa for RTP, Antena 1, and Público reveals that the majority of Portuguese citizens perceive Luís Montenegro, the president of the PSD and current Prime Minister, as more competent and better prepared than Pedro Nuno Santos, the secretary-general of the PS.
When asked ‘Who seems more competent?’, 44% of Portuguese people consider Luís Montenegro more competent than his main opponent, Pedro Nuno Santos, who garnered 31% of the vote. Notably, 18% expressed that neither candidate is competent.
Regarding the trait of being “more honest,” the margin between the two narrows. Montenegro has the confidence of 35%, while Pedro Nuno secured the votes of 32% of Portuguese citizens. Meanwhile, 23% indicated a lack of perceived honesty in both candidates.
The survey respondents further indicate that 46% believe Luís Montenegro is “better prepared to be prime minister” compared to the Opposition leader, who has 31% of the votes. Additionally, 17% felt that neither candidate is adequately prepared for the role.
When asked who is “more capable of promoting economic growth,” Portuguese citizens again favored the PSD president with 50% of the votes, compared to 30% for the PS secretary-general.
Regarding the ability to “solve health problems,” Montenegro leads with 39%, over the socialist candidate with 33%.
On the issue of “solving education problems,” the Prime Minister is ahead, receiving 42% of votes, whereas Pedro Nuno Santos has the trust of 32% of respondents. A similar trend is observed concerning “housing problems,” where Luís Montenegro, with 42%, again appears ahead of Pedro Nuno Santos, who has 31%.
