The Mota-Engil Group has reported a revenue of 1.365 billion euros, marking a 1% year-on-year increase, and an EBITDA of 215 million euros, reflecting a 10% rise compared to the first quarter of 2024.
The group noted this as “the best performance ever in a first quarter.”
According to a statement, there was a notable 60% increase in revenue in Africa, reaching 506 million euros, with an EBITDA of 119 million euros. This growth was driven by a doubling of activity in the Industrial Engineering segment, positioning Mota-Engil as the largest Contract Mining operator across the African continent.
In Europe, there was a 10% year-on-year decline in business volume, primarily due to the sale of its Polish operations in the third quarter of 2024, which previously contributed 33 million euros in revenue in the first quarter of 2024.
In Latin America, the company remains a key contributor to the Engineering and Construction business, with 557 million euros in revenue. However, there was a 22% decrease due to the completion of the Tren Maya project in Mexico and changes in the consolidation method for certain Mexican concessions.
The group maintained its order backlog at 15 billion euros, reflecting contracts signed in the first quarter totaling 515 million euros, with key markets being Angola (23%), Mexico (17%), and Nigeria (13%).
The company emphasized that the “resilient business volume reflects the strong contribution from Africa, which represents 60% of the Engineering and Construction portfolio.”
