Mota Engil’s profit in the first semester rises to 59 million euros

The construction and public works company Mota-Engil has reported its strongest financial performance for a first half of the year. The group’s revenue reached 2.745 billion euros, marking a 0.5% increase from the 2.732 billion euros achieved during the same period in 2024.

The Portuguese group saw its EBITDA, which represents earnings before taxes, net financial costs, amortizations, and depreciations, rise to 448 million euros, up 13% from the 396 million euros recorded in the first six months of 2024. The EBITDA margin improved to 16%, as stated in the company’s report.

The order book for the first half of 2025 totaled 14.7 billion euros, excluding contracts worth 1.36 billion euros that were signed post-June, according to Mota-Engil.

The administration emphasizes a “sustainable growth trend focused on profitability,” highlighted by a 13% growth in EBITDA and a 26% increase in EBIT. The company also noted a 22% increase in cash flow from operations, totaling 536 million euros, which supports the achievement of its previously outlined Business Plan objectives, according to the results presentation sent to the CMVM.

This strategy “will lead to the presentation of a new Strategic Plan by the end of the first quarter of 2026, setting new objectives and ambitions through 2030,” divulged the document.

Financial performance was also marked by a reduction in net debt by 64 million euros and an improved net debt/EBITDA ratio. This “consolidated trend” reflects the strategy of sustainable growth aligned with reinforcing balance sheet strength, it stated.

In terms of business performance, Mota-Engil noted a 59% increase in revenue from Africa. The Environmental segment grew by 15%, with EBITDA from African operations increasing by 77%, driven by activities in core markets and an 87% expansion in the Industrial Engineering business.

This development “currently places Mota-Engil as a leader in Contract Mining services on the African continent,” the report highlighted.

Conversely, the European business saw an 18% decline in the first half, attributed to the impact of the Polish operations in 2024, which were sold off in September. Excluding the 79 million euros in revenue recorded up to June 2024, the region would have recorded 11% growth on a comparable basis, despite challenges in the Portuguese market due to electoral cycles and delays in launching significant projects.

In Latin America, as previously communicated by the group, a decrease in activity aligned with expectations was observed due to the completion of major projects. This was accounted for in the 2025 planning, including the start of new contracts in Africa.

Overall, Mota-Engil stated that this realignment has “globally reinforced the group’s profitability.”
