A mother and her two children, aged eight and five, were rescued from the sea at Buarcos Beach, in the municipality of Figueira da Foz, during a near-drowning incident on Tuesday afternoon, confirmed the local fire brigade.
The alert was issued at 3:15 PM, and the mother along with her children were subsequently transported to Figueira da Foz District Hospital.
The rescue operation involved the Figueira da Foz Volunteer Firefighters, Maritime Police, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency.
As reported by Diário de Coimbra, the lifeguard on duty, who was patrolling the beaches on a quad bike, noticed the family in distress and proceeded to rescue them from the water.
The lifeguard provided first aid on the scene, and the victims were taken to the hospital due to water ingestion and hypothermia, as stated in the report.
