Mother of bullfighter who died laments criticism: “He never harmed a bull.”

The mother of Manuel Trindade, the 22-year-old bullfighter who died after being struck by a bull at Campo Pequeno in Lisbon, took to social media to criticize the comments surrounding his death, revealing that her son’s organs will “help save seven lives”.

Manuel Trindade’s death has sparked significant discussion on social media, particularly regarding bullfighting culture. PAN’s spokesperson, Inês Sousa Real, was among the critics, stating that it is “time to end” bullfighting, which she described as “barbaric”.

“This message is addressed to PAN and its followers: I want to thank you for all your applause, laughter, and glee at my son’s death. Did you know him to be pleased with his death? Do you know if he liked animals?” Alzira Trindade began in a Facebook post shared on Monday.

Emphasizing that her son was surrounded by animals, especially dogs that “are part of the family,” the mother stressed that “animals know who good people are” and argued that Manuel “belonged to a group of brothers who don a jacket with honor and courage”.

“These groups never harmed a bull; they handled it with skill!” she noted.

She also criticized the fact that critics did not view her son as a “rational animal” and questioned why there are no criticisms of other dangerous sports “that put the life of the rational animal at risk”.

“We still live in a democratic country, where everyone is free to enjoy what they like, and it’s nobody else’s business,” she stated.

Alzira also revealed that her son “became an organ donor” and will “help seven lives of rational animals”.

“Look, celebrate. He will continue living in seven people to bother you. How bad he was, the rational animal,” she said ironically.

This concerns the death of the bullfighter Manuel Trindade, from Amadores de São Manços in Évora, after being struck by a bull on Friday night.

The young man was hit while performing a take on a bull from the Vinhas estate and crashed violently into the barriers. He was promptly assisted and transported to São José Hospital, where he died on Saturday morning.

On the same night, a 73-year-old spectator felt unwell in the boxes of Campo Pequeno. According to TouroeOuro, citing a source from the company managing Campo Pequeno, the man was attended to by Red Cross rescuers and the venue’s security but was eventually transferred to Santa Maria Hospital.

He was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm and died that same night.
